STORYWORKS

Stories in the Classroom for K-6

About

While working for many years with Calgary Public Library, Deb Marshall and Cynthia Asquin-Richards developed their oral storytelling skills and an extensive knowledge of literature for children and young adults. As individuals they planned and provided programs and promoted public library services to students of all ages.

Since 1996 they have worked together as STORYWORKS, providing storytelling and reader’s theatre performances, writing and storytelling workshops and residencies to teachers and students across Alberta.

STORYWORKS programming uses oral story as the narrative framework for encouraging students to explore and develop their creative abilities in the literary arts. The workshops, performances and residencies are enhanced with creative dramatics, writing, and visual arts. Deb and Cynthia continue to learn and develop new stories and ideas into their programming to keep it fresh and exciting, while at the same time allowing them to custom design to individual school needs.
